Independence LED is pleased that the White House intoduced the Better Building Initiative (See Better Building Initiative Press Release) The program has set in motion a target to make US commercial buildings 20 percent more energy efficient over the next decade. We believe that the energy reduction can be accomplished in less than the target date of 2021, because high efficiency LED lighting offers a cost-effective means to reach the goal. On average, lighting accounts for about 30% of commercial electricity, and LED Tubes or socket lamps can reduce the electricity cost for lighting by 50% or more. Reducing the 30% of electricity on lighting by 50% yields a 15% reduction in total energy consumption which is well on its way to the target 20% reduction. The majority of commercial lighting is “Linear” with 4’ T8 32 Watt fluorescent tubes dominating the ceilings of offices across the US. The Independence LED 4’ LED Tubes only use 15 Watts compared to the 32 Watt Fluorescent equivalent, they last longer than fluorescents and are free of all toxins including Mercury.
In this section of the website, we have included our Research Department's findings on the savings potential and the public sector institutions and private sector companies that have made commitments to join the Better Building Initiative. We applaud their leadership, and we hope that they will consider LED Tubes that meet the Buy American standards of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). In 2010, Independence LED brought the manufacturing of its EAGLE LED Tube series from China to Boyertown, PA and the LED Tubes meet the Buy America standards of ARRA.
We have organized the Better Building Initiative organizations into categories. You can click through the categories to see the different Savings Potential with LED tubes and LED Fixtures as well as the commitment levels of the Netter Building Initiative companies that have put Energy Reduction PERFORMANCE on their agenda.
